Director of Marketing, Communications and Business Development
Q: What is a general description of your role with the City of Calvert?
A: “My career responsibilities include overseeing the city’s marketing and communication strategies, as well as overall branding and image. In addition to the marketing role, it is also within my job to seek out small business opportunities for the city and develop and implement plans designed to increase existing business, capture new opportunities, and serve as a liaison between City Hall and Calvert City’s business owners.”
Q: How long have you been with the City of Calvert?
A: “I am originally from Eddyville, Kentucky but married a Calvert City boy and his love for the city certainly rubbed off on me. I’ve lived here for 12 years now and worked for the City for a little over two years. It’s flown by, honestly! I mean, when you work for a city that you love, how much better can it get?”
Q: What is your favorite aspect of your job?
A: “My favorite part of the job is planning local events and building relationships with Calvert’s business owners. These folks get up every day and bust their tails to have a successful business. I love sharing the stories of Calvert City’s businesses and what they are doing, because it’s a lot! There really isn’t any part of my job that I dislike. My goals are to increase awareness, bring tourists to Calvert City, and recruit new businesses. I have a strict strategic plan that I use as a guide.”
Q: What is one piece of advice you live by as a business leader?
A: “One piece of advice…hold up, just one?! If I were to give just one piece of advice it would be to find mentors. Over the last 15 years of working in the marketing field, I’ve come across some phenomenal people. Listening to them and learning from them is priceless to me. I still call some of my mentors regularly. They help keep me balanced and always offer an outside perspective.”
